keep calm & get fit

Hi! I am Hailey and I am 15 years young and 5'6 feet tall. On this blog I welcome you to come along with me through my fitness/weight loss journey. I am trying to focus more on fitness though. Before starting this blog I was the typical lazy binge all day teenager. Now, I am trying to change those horrible habits into having a healthy lifestyle. Through this blog, I also hope to help inspire & motivate people to exercise more and become more healthy. Like pretty much everyone, I have a story. Read about it here.

how to prepare before a workout

I do not think I will be doing the food journals anymore (maybe a bit) but I think I have got it all down on what I am eating and I would rather post about tips for working out and eating right and such! Anyway here is my first post on it.

Eat good carbs Before a workout it is good to eat some of the good carbohydrates to give you the energy to actually do the workout without wearing out as quickly. Avoid sugary cereals and treats and try going for some oatmeal or whole wheat bread with a little bit of peanut butter and/or jam. Some other foods that would be good are Greek yogurt, brown rice, egg, protein shakes, etc.

Water Make sure to drink water maybe an hour or 30 minutes before your workout to make sure you are hydrated and do not get any cramps. But also bring water for your workout to have along the way so you do not get dehydrated.

Stretch Before and after every workout make sure that you stretch for maybe a good 5-10 minutes so that you have a lower risk of harming yourself (like your muscles) during your workout. It really improves your flexibility and preformance. Here are a few basic stretches you can do:

Cardio Sometimes it is a good idea to do like a 5 minute run or something to get your blood flow going and just get pumped up! I notice it really helped me out. Or just try some other cardio workouts to help you out.

Mentally prepare  Make sure you try setting a goal for your workout. Like getting a mile more on the treadmill or getting a faster time. I know setting a goal has helped me reach some of mine and really inspires you to do better and more once you have accomplished it.

Clothing Having good clothing can sometimes make a difference in your workout. Like the quality of your shoes or what you are wearing can really bring you down. As for top and bottoms, make sure it is something that is light and you can move it. I always love a nice pair of comfy athletic shorts and a very light tank top. Shoes always matter too and are usually worth investing in. A good pair of shoes typically ranges from $60-$100. I really love Nike for this as they have such a huge variety to choose from.
